More about us

January 2014

So behind the IVF/PGD journey we have been taking, let me tell you a little about ourselves! Jason and I met when I was 16 years old and he was 18. We met through Myspace, it was the year 2009 and I was in the middle of finishing my GCSEs. Jason was at college doing an IT course.

When I look back at my 16 year old self I find it incredible just how far we have come in 6 years together. In 2011 we got engaged and what should have been an exciting time turned into a nightmarish year for us only to be followed up with another year in 2012 of even more difficulties.

What began with a simple curiosity of searching for my father's birth mother, as he was adopted, ended in discovering a lot more than I could ever have imagined! I did find my grandmother but I also found that we had a lot more in common than just being related. I discovered that she carried a deadly disease in her genes and I chose to discover whether I did too.

My father tested positive for Huntington's disease first in January 2012 then I followed closely behind with my test results in March 2012 which came back positive. Though that time has been one of the most difficult times I went through I know everything happens for a reason and we wouldn't been on this IVF/PGD journey right now if I hadn't uncovered what I did.

My grandmother died early this year and my father has now become symptomatic. Yet among all this sadness I carry a burning torch of hope which God has given me. Jason and I got married in January 2013 and now we have the opportunity to have a Huntington's disease free baby therefore breaking the line of this generational illness forever...

So just to update from when I wrote the above - our journey has now took a turn in an entirely different direction. Sadly the IVF/PGD treatment didn't work out for us! 2014 was a difficult year full of much pain but we are still hoping to become parents in whatever way that may be!

To summarise what happened during last year:
1st cycle of IVF: Early miscarriage.
2nd cycle of IVF: Did not have any embryos make it to transfer.
3rd cycle of IVF: Was a repeat of the 2nd cycle.

The NHS no longer can fund anymore IVF treatment for Jason and I therefore the door has been closed on this part of our lives. Our situation is now completely in God's hands...Please do pray for us and watch this space!
